Program: Pharmacy Technician

Program Description: The Pharmacy Technician Program at Porterville Adult School is designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in retail, hospital, and clinical pharmacy settings. This comprehensive program provides foundational knowledge and practical skills necessary to support licensed pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of medications, customer service, and pharmacy operations. Students will receive instruction in key areas including pharmacology, medical terminology, pharmacy law and ethics, prescription processing, medication safety, dosage calculations, inventory management, and sterile and non-sterile compounding. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, attention to detail, and adherence to state and federal regulations governing pharmacy practice. The program integrates classroom instruction with hands-on training to ensure students develop both theoretical understanding and applied competencies. Workplace readiness skills such as communication, professionalism, and patient confidentiality (HIPAA compliance) are also embedded throughout the curriculum.
